No Excuse In-person Absentee Voting!

The Virginia Senate and House of Delegates will reconvene for one day, this Wednesday, April 8, to consider Governor Kaine’s vetoes and amendments.  One amendment by Governor Kaine would replace the Senate Bill 1070 making emergency personnel like firefighters and EMT’s eligible for absentee voting (this has already been signed in to law under an identical bill HB 1877) with language making absentee-in-person voting available to all voters, without excuse.
This is an important opportunity for voters to see how their representatives vote on this issue because, for the first time, it will go to the floor (usually the house kills these bills in subcommittee)!  And there is live, streaming video, so we can hold our representatives to account.  The Governor’s amendment is expected to pass on the Senate side, but the House of Delegates is not so certain.
If you want to support Governor Kaine and bring no-excuses absentee voting to Virginia, contact your Delegate between now and Wednesday and urge him or her to support Governor Kaine’s amendment to SB 1070.
