FCDC "Denim to Diamonds" Inaugural Ball Recap

FCDC had a great event on Saturday, January the 19th at the NOVA Annandale campus’s Community Center.  Over 650 guests attended the event and participated in dancing to music provided by the Bank Street Band, enjoyed delicious food from Jimmy’s restaurant, got their picture taken with Barack Obama (cut out), and entered the raffle to win great prizes like a $350 necklace, a $300 spa day, Barack Obama posters, books, and t-shirts, as well as numerous other gift certificates to great restaurants and democratically owned business.
FCDC is very happy to report that we collected a whopping 728 pounds of dry and canned goods to be donated to the UCM in Mt. Vernon, and 53 coats for One Warm Coat in the metro area during the event in part of the national day of service honoring Martin Luther King Jr.
In attendance was new elected Sen. Mark Warner as well as both our local Democratic Congressmen Jim Moran and Gerry Connolly.  FCDC was also proud to host the first event of the year attended by all of the declared statewide democratic candidates in 2009.  Addressing the crowd was Governor candidates Brian Moran, Terry McAuliffe, and Criegh Deeds, for Lieutenant Governor Jody Wagner, Jon Bowerbank, Pat Edmonson, and Mike Singer, and for Attorney General local favorite Steve Shannon.
Even before the Democratic primaries in June though Fairfax County will be holding a special election for Chairman of the Board of Supervisor on Feb. 3rd, vote at your regular polling place. Braddock District Supervisor, acting Chairman, and Democrat Sharon Bulova addressed the crowd about her race with both of her predecessor by her side, former Chairmen’s Rep. Gerry Connolly and Sec. Kate Hanley.  See the video below.
