“In order to fix a problem, you have to understand it,” says Dr. Johnny Finn, Associate Professor at Christopher Newport University. Dr. Finn’s research brings together literature on racial capitalism, critical landscape studies, and environmental justice. His work explores the ongoing economic, environmental, and health impacts of persistent racial segregation in the United States.

This week Dr. Finn will help us understand and identify the many layers of injustice from a human geography perspective which will paint a vivid picture of the landscapes of inequality and equip us to advocate for more racially and environmentally just communities.

Joining this conversation is Kim Sudderth, community activist, former candidate for Delegate in HD 92 (Norfolk), and the first Black woman to serve as Vice-Chair of the Norfolk Planning Commission. She has extensive experience as a strategic planner and social justice organizer. Kim will discuss how cultural awareness is key to being an effective organizer.

And rounding out this conversation will be our own Ms. Margaret Morrison, lifetime social justice advocate, who will share her activist acumen on this important discussion.
