Foster Kid Gift Drive

Barbara Favola
State Senator, 31st District
Co-Chair, Foster Kid Gift Drive

Jeff McKay
Chairman, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors
Co-Chair, Foster Kid Gift Drive

After last year’s historic success, the Fairfax Democrats are organizing a Gift Drive to give a happy holidays to those who are often forgotten; foster teens and children. Help us make the holidays bright for foster kids aged 10 – 21.

Co-chaired by Chairman Jeff McKay and Senator Barbara Favola, this year’s Gift Drive will help the 200 teens and children in the foster care system in Fairfax County have a happy holidays. With your generous contribution, we can give each kid gift cards, candy and other presents that will make the season merry and bright. If we raise enough, we will be able to cover graduation, birthday and other special gifts for these children and teens.

The deadline to participate in the Gift Drive is December 10th.

There are three ways to help.

1. Give directly to the Gift Drive Fund

By donating directly to the FCDC Foster Kid Gift Drive, this allows us to give funds directly to the Fairfax County Department of Family Services to help cover costs associated with supporting those in the foster care program. In addition to being used to fill the bag this holiday season, these funds will be be used to support the ongoing needs of these children and teens throughout the year, including clothes, school supplies, and other essentials.

2. Shop Online

As in previous years, we will be assembling holiday gift bags for foster children and teens to give to them in mid-to-late December. Based on the success last year, we have populated online wishlists at Target and Amazon with items that the Department of Family Services have identified as the kids’ favorites for inclusion in their holiday gift bags.

Note from Family Services:

To provide for the various needs of foster kids throughout the year, gift cards from Target and Amazon are preferred.

Make sure you send the gifts to the FCDC HQ (8500 Executive Park Ave, Suite 402, Fairfax, VA 22031) so we can receive and wrap the gifts in a timely fashion. If by any chance your online purchase arrives at another address, contact Stephanie at gift@fairfaxdemocrats.org to coordinate pick-up.

Please include your name and home address on the gift receipt so we know who to send a receipt to with tax deduction information. Gifts are repackaged prior to being dropped off at the Department of Family Services. Recipients will not see any messages or names included with the gift.

3. Drop off gifts at the FCDC Holiday Party

The Fairfax County Democratic Committee is holding its annual Holiday Party in the Lake Barcroft area of Fairfax County on Sunday, December 5th from 2:00 to 4:00pm. You can bring gifts to this event to have them included in the holiday gift bags.

Please send Stephanie an email at gift@fairfaxdemocrats.org if you have any questions.

Only contributions to this program are tax deductible. Normal contributions to the FCDC are not.

You will receive an itemized receipt with exemption information on or after December 20th.

Thank you for making a difference.
