Compensation: $48,000 – $60,000 annual salary, plus annual performance-based bonus and benefits, negotiable

Job Summary and Responsibilities

The FCDC Finance Director enhances and supplements the existing political fundraising capability of the County Committee. Duties include, but are not limited to: building new fundraising capability and programs; developing untapped local, state, and national sources of contributions; organizing meetings and events for the purpose of donor building; advising the Chair, Vice Chair of Finance, and Finance Committee on fundraising operations; and recruiting and supervising volunteers where necessary to supplement fundraising capability. 

Specific responsibilities include:  

  1. Organizing and executing fundraising programs that supplement existing FCDC fundraising activities, including direct mail, online fundraising, and call time programs.
  2. Developing and running a professional donor management program to attract and retain donors and build donor loyalty.
  3. Spearheading donor research initiatives for major donors, organizations, PACs, and individuals.
  4. Using and making recommendations for improved use of our donor database, NGPVAN.
  5. Running a program for tracking and chasing outstanding pledges.
  6. Adding new donors to our monthly and annual contribution “Sustainers” program.
  7. Working closely with the County Chair and Vice Chair for Finance to advise and support fundraising efforts, including:
    • developing sources and ideas for fundraising to expand the effectiveness of FCDC;
    • developing a fundraising budget;
    • assisting in organizing fundraising events, as necessary;
    • following up with donors to build donor relationships and longevity; and
    • promoting FCDC fundraising events.
  8. Working in coordination with FCDC Leadership.


  • Applicants must have experience interacting with the public and must have a strong customer service ethic. 
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • Must be computer-capable and comfortable with Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
  • Comfortable speaking over the phone.
  • Experience with political campaigns or fundraising.
  • Attention to detail and possession of strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to take initiative and find creative solutions.
  • Exceptionally qualified candidates will have:
    • Previous experience as a finance assistant or director.
    • Experience with NGPVAN.
    • Understanding of Virginia and Federal campaign finance laws.
    • An existing donor list and relationships.


Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience. With satisfactory performance, salary will be adjusted annually for inflation and merit. This employee is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus, a reimbursable health plan (QSEHRA), Federal holidays, paid vacation leave, and paid sick leave.

Employment and Supervision

We are seeking to hire a full-time employee. The Finance Director will be permitted to work remotely if desired, but is expected to maintain a regular presence in the FCDC office on an agreed upon schedule, and meet with donors in the vicinity of Fairfax County, VA.

We are open to other non-employee arrangements (e.g., independent contractor, service-based contract) if we have confidence that the need to build our fundraising capacity is met. Employment-based clauses proposed in this announcement would not apply to such an arrangement.

The Finance Director will report to the FCDC Executive Director, but is expected to work independently and with general direction from the Chair, the Personnel Committee, and the Steering Committee. Feedback shall occur no less than annually and in the first year, no later than six months into the appointment.

Other Conditions and Notices

The Finance Director is an at-will employee and either party can terminate the relationship at any time with or without cause and with or without notice. This position is exempt from overtime rules of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
