Mobile Service Centers to Update DMV Issued Identification

NOTE:  These DMV Service centers will provide, among other things, DMV issued ID which can be used as ID at the polls.  But this is not to be confused with the Virginia Voter Photo ID which will be available for free at the Office of Elections.

RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles’ five mobile customer service centers, called DMV 2 Go, are traveling across the state to serve customers. Each full service office provides all DMV transactions. Thanks to DMV’s partnerships with other government agencies, customers may also now purchase certified copies of Virginia birth certificates, obtain E-ZPass transponders, and apply for their hunting or fishing licenses on all five DMV mobile offices. During August 2014, DMV 2 Go will be open in several locations in Northern Virginia.

Key differences between DMV issued  ID and Voter Photo ID:

  • A birth certificate, SSN card, proof of address, payment are required for DMV ID
  • whereas the Voter Photo ID is free and only used for voting and is not available from the DMV.

Note: DMV does not register you to vote, change your voter address, nor issue Voter Photo ID. By law, only a local voter registrar can register you to vote or change your voter information. Click here for more information on voter registration

Voter Photo Identification cards can be obtained by visiting the Fairfax County Office of Elections .Click here for more information.
