45th House of Delegates Special Election

This post is for those who live in the 45th district.

Del. David Englin has announced that he has notified the Governor of his resignation from the Virginia House of Delegates, effective August 31, 2012.  This resignation creates a vacancy in the 45th House District, which must be filled in accordance with the Constitution of Virginia, the Code of Virginia, and the Democratic Party Plan of Virginia.  Responsibility for the nominating process leading to the special election for this vacancy is vested in the 45th House District Nominating Committee, which includes a representative from each locality (Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax) in the 45th House District.
The Nominating Committee has established a website at www.45thDistrict.org, for the purpose of providing information about the nominating process and soliciting feedback.  The Governor has not yet scheduled the special election or held meetings, therefore no decisions have been made yet about a method of nomination, voting dates or location(s), or otherwise.  The Nominating Committee would like to hear from you before these decisions are made.  Please take a moment to review the information at www.45thDistrict.org and take the survey there.

Although the three local committees have no formal role in the nominating process, the local chairs are working closely with the Nominating Committee and have all pledged to help with planning and logistics.  In particular, we’ll need plenty of volunteers to help staff the voting location(s) throughout the process.  The survey provides an opportunity to indicate if you’d be willing to help volunteer.
If you have any questions about the nominating process, please see the above website or email the Alexandria representative on the Nominating Committee, Craig Fifer at craig@45thdistrict.org.
We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
