Kristin Cabral Announces Campaign
for Congress in Virginia’s 10th District

PTA mom and former Justice Department Attorney Will Take on 16-term Rep. Frank Wolf (R) in a District President Obama Won.

Kristin CabralWINCHESTER – PTA mom and former Justice Department Attorney Kristin Cabral announced her candidacy for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District today.  Republican incumbent Rep. Frank Wolf has been in Congress for more than 30 years, having first been elected in 1980.  Cabral is the only Democrat to file for the District so she will move directly to a General Election contest with Congressman Wolf.
“People are frustrated and angry by all the partisan bickering in Congress,” said Cabral.  “They want results and Northern Virginia deserves results.  Frank Wolf has been in Congress for more than 30 years and he’s become part of the problem, voting with his party leadership over 90% of the time.  It’s time we had someone in Congress who will work with all sides to get things done and won’t be afraid to roll up her sleeves and take on the leadership of either party if that’s what it takes.  That’s exactly what I’ll do in Congress.”
Virginia’s new 10th Congressional District covers Loudoun, Frederick, and Clarke Counties and parts of Fairfax and Prince William Counties, as well as the cities of Winchester, Manassas, and Manassas Park.  President Obama narrowly won the 2008 vote within the new District lines.
Kristin Cabral is an attorney and PTA mom who worked her way through college with a combination of jobs, student loans, grants, and scholarships and graduated from Harvard Law with President Obama.  She has worked as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, as a Legal Counsel to Senator Joe Biden, and taught at George Washington University Law School.
Kristin was raised in a family with working class roots and went through the Head Start program before working summers as a sales girl in a clothing store, a packer at a moving company, and as a cashier at McDonald’s.
Kristin and her husband have been Northern Virginia residents for over 17 years and have two children, ages 13 and 14.  Kristin has been an active community volunteer, such as for the PTA of her children’s schools, for several nonprofit organizations, and as a trustee on the Fairfax County Library Board.  She has also taught Sunday School at her church, been a Girl Scout troop leader, and helped out with her children’s sports teams.
