Northern Virginia is such a wealthy area.? Does hunger and poverty really exist?

Yes.? Even though Northern Virginia is considered one of the wealthiest jurisdictions in the country, we still face a poverty rate of 5%.? This means, based on US Census figures, that 90,183 persons are living in poverty, 30% of whom are children. In Northern Virginia between 2006 and 2009 we have seen an increase o168% in the number of families requesting emergency food assistance.
Here are items need for the food drive:

  • Canned meats and fish: ham, turkey, chicken, tuna, beef
  • Peanut butter and jelly/jam
  • Canned soup, stew, and chili
  • Cereal
  • Vegetables ? canned
  • Fruit – canned
  • Beans ? dried or canned

At the meeting the first order of business will be the election of the new Chair of FCDC.? The new Chair will then preside over the rest of the meeting.? After the Chair’s election, amendments to the by-laws will be considered. After all by laws amendments have been considered the committee will vote on a resolution describing the Authorities and Responsibilities of the Officers and Standing Committees.? After the Authorities and Responsibilities have been decided there will be elections held for all Officers.? Dear FCDC Members:
I hope you are all having a nice holiday season.

According to our current bylaws any member can propose amendments and the chair is responsible for notifying the members of all the proposed amendments, even amendments that may be duplicative or contradictory. All the proposed amendments are listed below along with the name of the person proposing them. One amendment is a complete set of bylaws including changes that I am proposing. In some cases, my proposal incorporates ideas from other submissions.Other parts of my proposal are ideas that I have for improving FCDC?s efficiency based on my experience as Chair and Vice-chair for Finance. All proposed amendments will be considered at the January 5 meeting. The bylaws may be amended at the reorganization meeting by a two-thirds vote of the members present and voting. See you on January 5.
