FCDC Needs GOTV Volunteers!

FCDC has begun its planning for Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts on Election Day.  First, please plan on taking off the entire day from work on Election Day. Make arrangements now!
Second, we need volunteers!  We have the following categories of GOTV activities that need volunteers.  Each is described more fully below:

  • Early/In-Person Absentee Voting Volunteers
  • Rides to the Polls
  • Yard Sign Distribution
  • Election Day Volunteers

Read below for more information about how to get involved.

Early/In-Person Absentee Volunteers
Fairfax County has in-person absentee voting at the Fairfax County Government Center now and at 7 satellite locations starting October 15-31 (click here for locations).  We need 6 captains to run the coverage at these locations and individuals who are willing to work M-F 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and/or Saturday 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. to hand out sample ballots.
If you are willing to volunteer, click here, enter your information, click the appropriate boxes, and enter your availability in the notes field below.  An FCDC Coordinator will contact you.
Rides to the Polls
We are expecting a massive amount of requests for rides to the polls on Election Day.  Please note that the vast majority of people who need rides are not disabled persons but people who cannot afford their own car or people who cannot access the polling place via public transportation.  With all of the new voters this year, we are expecting a huge demand.
FCDC is going to be coordinating rides to the polls on Election Day and before Election Day.  FCDC needs (1) 9 people to be Ride to the Polls coordinators before (one for each magisterial district) and on Election Day and (2) about 180 people to give rides.
If you are willing to volunteer, click here, enter your information, click the appropriate boxes, and enter your availability in the notes field below.  An FCDC Coordinator will contact you.
FCDC Yard Sign Blitz
FCDC needs individuals to help with yard sign distribution on the road right-of-ways.  We need 9 people to coordinate distribution in each Supervisor (Magisterial) District and individuals to help with distribution in each district.
If you are willing to volunteer, click here, enter your information, click the appropriate boxes, and enter your availability in the notes field below.  An FCDC Coordinator will contact you.
Election Day Workers
As usual, FCDC will be coordinating most polling place operations.  We also have some precincts that are in need of individuals to head up coordination. We will have workers inside the polls checking lists of voters as they vote, plus we will have volunteers outside handing out sample ballots.  We will also need Election Protection volunteers to open and close the polls to ensure the integrity of the vote.  We will provide you with all of the training you will need.
Again, we need the following: (1) Precinct Captains, (2) Inside Worker, (3) Outside Worker, (4) Opening, (5) Closing.  If you are willing to volunteer, click here, enter your information, click the appropriate boxes, and enter your availability in the notes field below.  An FCDC Coordinator will contact you.
* Note that there will be other Election Day activities involving phone banking, door-to-door voter contact, and leafleting.  Those activities are being coordinated by the Campaign for Change.
