Democratic Candidates Running in Fairfax County in 2011

Thanks to strong Democratic leadership, Fairfax County is the best place to live, work, and raise a family, with low unemployment, high-income jobs, low crime rate, and public schools that are consistently ranked among the best in the United States. This year is important because it affects all of us and we need everyone to get out and vote to make sure we are represented by people who believe government has an important role to play in the quality of our lives.

In 2011, Fairfax County will be electing State Senators, House of Delegates Members, County Board of Supervisors, School Board, Commonwealth’s Attorney, County Sheriff and Soil & Water Conservation Board Directors.  The general election date is Tuesday, November 8.  Below is a list of Democratic candidates running for these offices in Fairfax County.

Thanks to strong Democratic leadership, Fairfax County is the best place to live, work, and raise a family, with low unemployment, high-income jobs, low crime rate, and public schools that are consistently ranked among the best in the United States. Fairfax County has an elected Board of Supervisors consisting of nine members elected by district, plus a chairman elected at-large.  District Supervisors are elected by voters living in those districts. All voters in the county may vote for the chairman. The Board establishes county government policy, passes resolutions and ordinances (subject to limits established by the Virginia General Assembly), approves the budget, sets local tax rates, approves land use plans and makes appointments to various positions.

FAIRFAX COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD

Thanks to strong Democratic leadership, Fairfax County public schools are consistently ranked among the best in the United States with high test scores and graduation rates.  A 12-member School Board is elected to four-year terms that are concurrent with the terms of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors; one School Board member represents each of nine magisterial (election) districts, and three members serve at large. The current School Board members’ terms expire on December 31, 2011.

The Fairfax County School Board is charged by the statutes of Virginia and the regulations of the Virginia Board of Education to provide and operate the public schools of Fairfax County. It is the function of the Board to set general school policy and, within the framework of Virginia Board of Education regulations, to establish guidelines that will ensure the proper administration of the county school program.  Fairfax County School Board is a non-partisan elected office. The Fairfax County Democratic Committee has endorsed the following candidates:

NOVA SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION

NVSWCD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. Three directors are elected in a general election every four years, and two, including a Virginia Cooperative Extension agent serving Fairfax County, are appointed by the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Board.
