Comstock Violates Public Trust, Fails to Disclose Conflict of Interest

FALLS CHURCH – It was reported in Politico today that Del. Barbara Comstock sponsored legislation being promoted by a “well-heeled conservative group” while being paid handsome fees as a lobbyist for that organization, and failing to disclose the relationship.
The arrangement is a classic conflict of interest which raises questions about Comstock’s ability to serve the public interest, as it was revealed that she was paid by a special interest at the same time she is supposed to represent the people of her legislative district.
The Politico report follows a September 5 report in the Washington Post that Comstock filed federal disclosure reports while omitting $85,000 in reportable income from Mitt Romney’s Presidential campaign and the Republican National Committee – which the Washington Post wrote was “an apparent breach of Congressional ethics rules.”
Sue Langley, Chair of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee, said, “Once again, news reports show that Barbara Comstock will put her personal interest ahead of the public interest. She has tried to conceal this conflict of interest from required disclosure. This is another clear indication that Comstock can’t be trusted to serve as the people’s representative.”
